Get appropriate medical guidance
Consult a qualified healthcare professional before beginning a new exercise or combat-sports program, especially if you have an injury, medical condition, are pregnant or have concerns about intense exercise. Stop immediately and seek appropriate help if you experience chest pain, faintness, unusual shortness of breath, severe pain, confusion or other concerning symptoms.
Use qualified supervision
Online lessons cannot observe your condition, technique, partner or surroundings. Learn sparring, contact drills, advanced techniques and competition skills under the direct supervision of a qualified in-person coach. Do not practice dangerous techniques on an unwilling or unprepared person.
Protective equipment and environment
Use properly fitted protective equipment appropriate to the activity, including wraps, gloves, mouth protection, head protection and shin or body protection when applicable. Inspect bags, anchors, floors and surrounding space. Train only on a safe surface with adequate room, lighting, ventilation and hydration.
Progress gradually
Begin at a level appropriate for your experience. Prioritize balance, control and technique before speed, force, fatigue or contact. Do not train while impaired, medically restricted or unable to maintain control.
Minors
Anyone under 18 must have permission and active supervision from a parent or legal guardian, along with age-appropriate instruction from a qualified coach.
Assumption of risk
By choosing to participate, you understand that strains, sprains, fractures, concussion, serious injury and other harms can occur even when precautions are used. You are responsible for your training decisions and voluntarily accept the ordinary risks of the activities you choose.
